I started at Heidelberg Girls Secondary in 1966 and left after attaining my Leaving Certificate in 1970. I enjoyed my time at the school.
Some of my memories............ forgive me if they are not in year order !! *Greeting the Queen somewhere in Heidelberg. *The opening of the Hall. *Cookery Classes in those horrid blue aprons and then eating in the 'dining room'. *Practising to make beds and do house work in the flat at the end of one of the bldgs. *Friday Sport.... !!! Again in those horrid blue sports uniforms and bloomers !! *Navy Berets like frizbies !! Oh the efforts we went to to flatten the things !!! Even took panels out. Ironed and steamed the things.............yuk !!!
*Kneeling on the floor while Miss Henry measured how far your hem was from the floor!! *Mrs. Grava in Science. *Sitting in the Science Room watching Man landing on the Moon....WOW !!

Terri Carr nee Black
My name is Terri Carr (nee Black) and I would like to share with you my memories of my time at Heidelberg Girls High School:
I lived in Liberty Parade West Heidelberg from 1966 starting at the beginning of the year in Grade 2 at OVPS and moved from West Heidelberg in 1976 when I got married to my first husband.
I attended HGHS from 1971 – 1973 completing Form 1 to Form 3 during this time. I use to either walk or catch the bus to school. If I walked I would often try and walk past Philip Gould's (from Young Talent Time) house in the hope of seeing him. Crazy teenage stuff – I laugh at this now. Sometimes I would walk to one of my friends’ place, hang out for a while and then we would go to school. At school we would often go to the fences facing the factories to look at the young men.
I remember two of my form teachers they were Miss Dempster whom I had in Form 1 and Mrs Bodkin whom I had in Form 3 unfortunately I cannot remember who I had in Form 2. I was also in the school choir in 1971 but my memory evades me as to whether I continued in the choir after this.

I began my first day at Heidelberg Girls Secondary School in 1969 I was 12 and a 1/2 years old and it was very daunting to begin such a huge event.
My first form teacher was Miss Henry she was a wonderful teacher whom I respected and found to be fair and compassionate. As my two older sisters had attended the school before I had no idea that teachers would remember them so well and compare me to them.
I have had some other awesome teachers who left a huge mark on me that grew with me as I aged those teachers were Miss Mawhinny, Mrs Teague who was a fantastic cooking teacher she flared my passion for cooking and I still love nothing better than getting in the kitchen. Miss Henry inspired me with sewing and I spent many years making my own clothes and then clothes for my twin daughters.
Some of the classmates I can still recall names of Fatima Maliki, Lind Heales or Healy, Josephine Muscat, Lesley Ashman, Shane Bonning, Vicki Hamer, Suzanne Warne, Ann Pederson, Rhonda Fawcett, Cheryl or Carol Brown, Robyn Bowers, Lillian English, Rhonda Fawcus, Rhonda Gould,
Beverley Jones, Ann Ladd, Dawn Chislett, Catherine Hickling just to name some.

I started HGSS in 1963 and Finished in 1967. Our trip
to Canberra with the school that year, was a great trip it was the first
time I had ever been on a plane.
Memories of my school days are not many but things I do remember are the
principle Miss Payne lived at the school in a flat on the premises, my reason for remembering that is that we used to do her housework and washing for home economic class. Teachers used to be at the gate when we left to make sure we
were wearing our berets. Sewing with I think it was Mrs. Barnett was always a great class, I remember making our cooking aprons and hat in her class. We also had to do some smocking on material then we made a baby dress from it

I attended the school in 1963 and left in July 1965 due to my father passing away from a heart attack and my mother had just had her breast removed due to cancer, so left school to look after her which was mid year Form 3B. Miss Kate Payne was the principal when I started there and she lived in a small flat that was attached to the school and as part of our Home Management lessons we had to clean her flat and wash, starch and iron her sheets and other linen. Diane Files who later married and became Diane Green was my Geography teacher and also our Form teacher. She was such a lovely person and she actually became aware that I may need glasses as I wrote completely different words in my book than she had written up on the board. She sent a note home to have my eyes tested and we found I was short sighted and still wear glasses today at age 61 years.

I received my BA in Theatre Arts/English and Secondary Education from the University of Northern Colorado in 1971. I was recruited by the Victorian Education Department in Denver after my graduation. I migrated to Australia in 1972 as a permanent resident. My first teaching position was Waterdale Girls School in West Heidelberg, Victoria, Australia. The highlight of my first year of teaching was the production of The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie in conjunction with Heidelberg Technical School performed at LaTrobe University.
My second teaching position was at Heidelberg Technical School. I enjoyed learning about the Aussie way of life through the boys at the Tech. I taught sixth form English, night school, drama, anything they wanted me to teach! I learned to be very adaptable at the Tech.
